Out of Harm’s WayREAD: Exodus 34:6-7CHALLENGE: Experience God’s Salvation
God’s nature is full of compassion, grace, and patience, yet His justice is unwavering. The passage in Exodus reveals God’s dual nature: forgiving the repentant but not leaving the guilty unpunished. We often focus on God’s love but overlook the reality of judgment. In this message, we’ll explore how God’s mercy rescues us from deserved wrath, how judgment is inevitable without repentance, and why embracing Christ leads us to eternal safety. Flee judgment by turning to God's mercy!

Put Your Confidence in Jesus

Wednesday Jul 17, 2024

Wednesday Jul 17, 2024

Stand Confident
READ: James 1:2-12
CHALLENGE: Put your confidence in Jesus
My ultimate confidence is in Jesus. Jesus is faithful, not a politician who makes empty promises. He is righteous and just, with power and authority. Through His love and sacrifice, He freely gives us forgiveness and redemption. If we believe in Him and what He has done, we will be given eternal life. This life is only a fleeting moment that we are passing through until we reach our eternal home.
Today’s challenge is to put your confidence in Jesus.
Let's look at James 1:2-12 to understand why we can stand confident in Jesus and Jesus alone. Open your Bibles or turn on your phones to James 1:2-3:
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
Consider It Pure Joy!
One unique aspect of the book of James is how it starts boldly with a challenging command: to find joy in the difficult things happening to us. James tells us that trials will come our way, not if but when. These trials test our faith, producing perseverance. Trials are not just walks through the valleys but are designed to reveal the quality of our faith and build spiritual stamina.
Testing and Perseverance
Just as James 2:19 reminds us, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder,” our faith must go beyond mere belief. Trials test this faith, just as an intense downpour tested the sump pump in my basement, flooding it and causing a mess. Through hard work and perseverance, we fixed the problem and emerged stronger. Similarly, trials shape our character and strengthen our faith, just as fixing the basement strengthened my marriage.
Working Your Faith Muscle
What are you doing to strengthen your faith muscle? Attending church is a good start, but it’s not enough. Like working out at a gym, you must actively engage with your faith through prayer, Bible study, and witnessing to others. If you don’t, you risk becoming spiritually weak and vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks. 1 Peter 5:8 warns us: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”
Perseverance and Wisdom
James 1:4-5 says: “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” We need perseverance to become mature and complete Christians. Pray daily, asking God for wisdom. He will give it generously, not based on our worthiness but on our request.
Believing Without Doubting
James 1:6-8 reminds us to believe and not doubt: “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.” Doubt can destabilize our faith. Strengthen your faith by reading the Bible, praying, and engaging with a faith community. God desires our trust and rewards our faith.
Finding Contentment in God
James 1:9-11 advises us to take pride in humble circumstances and find contentment in God. Wealth does not impress God; spiritual growth does. Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:26, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” God values our hearts, not our possessions.
The Crown of Life
James 1:12 promises, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” Standing strong through trials results in God’s reward, both in this life and in the next. Our eternal salvation is based solely on faith in Christ, leading to enriched eternal life for those who persevere.
As we close, reflect on what your confidence is built upon. Is it in the temporary things of this world or in the eternal promise of Jesus? Fix your eyes on Jesus, ask for what you lack, and stand confident in Him.

Pursue Righteousness

Monday Jul 15, 2024

Monday Jul 15, 2024

The Power of Righteousness
READ: Genesis 18:16-33
CHALLENGE: Pursue Righteousness
A. THERE IS POWER IN RIGHTEOUSNESS (vv. 16-19)
Vv. 16-19: "When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked along with them to see them on their way. Then the Lord said, 'Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do? Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be blessed through him. For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.'”
The importance of righteousness cannot be overstated. While we cannot control the actions of the world around us, we have the power to control our own actions and live for God. Abraham’s visitors were on a divine mission to investigate Sodom and Gomorrah, leading to their eventual destruction—a sobering reality.
These men looked down at Sodom, indicating a position of height. Abraham, living outside the city's evil, stayed above the moral muck and mire. God contemplated whether to reveal His plans to Abraham, highlighting the significance of Abraham’s future. God’s reasoning for sharing this privileged information was rooted in who Abraham was and who he was becoming.
The Power of Becoming
Abraham was chosen because of his potential. Although childless with Sarah at the time, God saw what Abraham would become—a great and powerful nation. This underscores the principle that it’s not just about who we are today, but who we are becoming. A positive future requires present righteousness. We cannot impact future generations positively without living rightly today.
The Power of Legacy
Abraham’s influence extended beyond his immediate family. Nations would be blessed through him, ultimately through Jesus Christ. This legacy is a testament to the exponential impact of righteous living. We have the potential to leave a profound legacy by leading others to follow Christ, impacting countless lives.
The Power of Character
God’s confidence in Abraham stemmed from his character. Abraham was chosen to direct his children and household to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just. Our character can impact others more than our actions. The legacy of Abraham’s faith and righteousness is a powerful reminder that our choices and character have long-lasting effects.
B. DESTRUCTION IN WICKEDNESS (vv. 20-33)
Vv. 20-21: "Then the Lord said, 'The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin so grievous that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know.'"
The grievous sins of Sodom and Gomorrah led to their destruction. The outcry against them was a cry for help from those suffering under their wickedness. Sin, which may seem beneficial to the sinner, often harms others. The impact of righteousness is profound, as demonstrated by Abraham’s intercession for Sodom. Though the city was ultimately destroyed due to the lack of righteous people, Abraham's plea highlights the potential power of righteous individuals to impact and potentially save even a corrupt society.
Pursue righteousness, knowing that it holds power to shape your future, influence others, and leave a lasting legacy.

Welcome to the Soaring Faith Podcast! In this episode, "We Need God," we dive deep into Genesis 17:15 and explore the profound blessings that come from our Heavenly Father, emphasizing the vital importance of God's presence in our lives.
As we journey through the scripture, we'll reflect on the incredible blessings God bestowed upon Abraham and Sarah, transforming their seemingly impossible situation into a testament of His faithfulness. The challenge for this episode is to be encouraged by the blessing of God, recognizing that His blessings go far beyond our efforts and strengths.
Key Points Discussed:
The Meaning of Blessing:
To bless means to endue with power for success, prosperity, and longevity. It's more than just happiness; it's about God's empowerment for a fulfilling life.
We should seek God's blessings rather than relying solely on our efforts or looking for luck.
God Can Bless Your Future:
Genesis 17:15-16 tells of Sarai becoming Sarah, the mother of nations. Despite her infertility, God's blessing transformed her future.
Our present reality doesn't dictate our future. God's blessings can turn barren situations into bountiful ones.
Reflect on biblical examples like Saul becoming Paul and Simon becoming Peter, showing how God's blessings change lives profoundly.
Faith and Anticipation:
Sarah's name was changed in faith before Isaac's birth, teaching us that faith believes before it receives.
We often believe in things we haven't seen yet, like heaven or God's promises. Faith sustains us through uncertainty.
God Can Bless Your Impossible Situations:
Abraham laughed at the promise of a child in old age, yet God made the impossible possible.
Reflect on how God has intervened in seemingly hopeless situations, both in the Bible and in our lives.
God specializes in turning impossibilities into realities, reminding us to focus on His power rather than our limitations.
God Blesses Your Family:
God promised to establish His covenant with Isaac, impacting future generations.
Our obedience today can lead to blessings for our descendants, much like Abraham's faithfulness affected his lineage.
Reflect on how your faith and actions can influence and bless your family and future generations.
God Can Bless Your Prayers:
God heard Abraham's prayers for Ishmael and promised to bless him, showing the power of intercession.
Prayers for our loved ones and their spiritual well-being can lead to significant blessings and changes.
God Blesses in His Time:
God's timing is perfect, even if it's not what we expect. Abraham and Sarah waited many years for God's promise, teaching us patience and trust.
Continue seeking God and being persistent in your faith, trusting that He will come through in His perfect timing.
God Blesses Obedience:
Abraham's obedience to God's command impacted his entire household, leading them to faith.
Reflect on how your life and example can lead others to a deeper walk with God and influence your community positively.

God's Promises to Abraham

Monday Jun 10, 2024

Monday Jun 10, 2024

Welcome to another enriching episode of the Soaring Faith Podcast! In this episode, titled "Your Decision," we delve into the profound moments where faith meets life, inspired by Genesis 17:9-14. Reflect on the significance of Abraham's covenant with God and the critical importance of making committed decisions to trust Him fully.
We explore how God's promises to Abraham, despite seeming improbable, demonstrate that God can do the impossible. His promise to be our God is the greatest assurance we can have. Abraham's act of circumcision as a sign of this covenant is a powerful example of faith in action, showing us that faith and works go hand in hand.
Discover how trusting God is a deeply personal decision, one that requires us to embrace His promises wholeheartedly. We'll discuss the parallels between the ancient covenant and today's call to faith through Jesus Christ. Just as Abraham was asked to take an extraordinary step of obedience, we too are invited to make a bold commitment to God.
We'll also delve into the concept of trusting God with all our hearts, highlighting the need for total commitment. Circumcision was a profound act of faith, and today, our faith should be equally evident in our lives through our love, dedication, and obedience to God's will.
Finally, we'll talk about how trusting God transforms our lives, setting us apart from the world and leading us to cut off sinful practices. Like Abraham and Paul, our faith should mark us as God's people, showing the world that we belong to Him.
Join us in this episode as we unpack these themes, offering insights and challenges to deepen your spiritual journey. Tune in and discover how trusting God can transform your life, one decision at a time.

Mother's Day

Monday Jun 03, 2024

Monday Jun 03, 2024

In this Mother's Day sermon, we delve into the story of Sarah, Hagar, and Abraham from Genesis 16:1-16. Sarah, unable to have children, persuades Abraham to conceive a child with her servant Hagar. When Hagar becomes pregnant, tensions rise, leading to conflict. An angel of the Lord intervenes, directing Hagar to return and submit to Sarah, demonstrating God's care and involvement. This narrative offers lessons on humility, the pitfalls of pride, and trusting in God’s plan for our families.
Key Points:
Parent in Humility (Genesis 16:1-6):
Narrative: Sarah, feeling the weight of her inability to bear children, suggests that Abraham have a child with Hagar. When Hagar becomes pregnant, she looks down on Sarah, leading to conflict. Sarah then mistreats Hagar, who flees.
Lesson: Sarah's pride and impatience led to poor decisions and conflict. Parenting with humility involves recognizing our limitations and trusting in God’s timing.
Recognize the Dangers of Pride:
Human Pride: Sarah's desire to have a child led her to prioritize her own will over God's. Her actions caused strife and suffering for herself and Hagar.
Application: Pride can lead us to make decisions based on cultural norms or personal desires, rather than seeking God's guidance. It can also cause us to look down on others and blame them for our own shortcomings.
Take Responsibility in the Family:
Abraham’s Role: Abraham's passive response to the conflict between Sarah and Hagar demonstrates a lack of leadership. He fails to address the situation directly, allowing tension to grow.
Application: Responsible parenting involves actively addressing issues and setting boundaries to maintain harmony and righteousness in the family.
Trust in God’s Guidance:
Hagar’s Return: The angel of the Lord tells Hagar to return and submit to Sarah, emphasizing humility and obedience. Despite the hardship, this was the path to peace and blessing.
Application: Sometimes, the right path involves difficult actions and humility. Trusting in God’s guidance, even when it’s hard, brings about His blessings.
Acknowledge God’s Presence and Care:
El Roi: Hagar names God "El Roi," meaning "the God who sees me," recognizing His awareness and care in her distress. God assures her of His plans for her and her son.
Application: God sees and cares about our struggles and is actively involved in our lives. We can trust in His presence and provision, even in challenging circumstances.
Conclusion: This Mother's Day, let's commit to parenting with humility, taking responsibility, and trusting in God’s guidance. By recognizing the dangers of pride and embracing God’s active presence in our lives, we can nurture our families according to His will. Through humility and trust, we can find peace and blessing in our parenting journey.
